ARTIST STATEMENT

My artist practice experiments with playful possibilities and the deliberate modification of everyday materials. I enjoy salvaging and re-contextualizing discarded surfaces and objects, providing them with a 'second chance' and the opportunity to relinquish their original purpose for that of something else, and to embody 'other-ness'. These works are often a visual interplay between edges, form and shadow. A deliberate slippage between the perceived world of design and contemporary forms of artmaking is at play.

Mostly, I work with acrylic and enamel paint, repurposed cardboard packaging with domestic joinery methods such as stitching and that of layered collage techniques. I also embrace technology and subvert the hand-made and collaged layered surfaces and engage with digital and graphic design to explore shape / form, color and direction to create pattern.

I regularly exhibit in Faculty art exhibitions. As a Visual Arts educator, creator and maker, I value the creative process and the potential that exists in the power of visualizing ideas.
